NISD hires coach; 2 resign
Normangee ISD hired a history teacher and coach during a called Thursday, July 22, midday meeting.

NISD board secretary Steve Halliburton, and NISD board members Dr. W.A. Bilsing II and John Davis were not present for the roughly three-minute session.

Sam Bush, who last taught and coached at Groesbeck ISD, was hired during the called session, said NISD Superintendent Jerry Burger. Burger said the special session was called to allow Normangee Panther Head Coach Brian Mullinnix to have a full staff of assistant coaches when he begins two-a-day practices on Monday.

Had NISD trustees waited until the next regular board meeting, Bush wouldn't have been hired and able to start work until one week of two-a-days had passed, Burger said.

Bush was hired to fill an opening created by the resignation of Larry Cone; Cone's resignation was also accepted during the Thursday, July 22, session.

Cone had been hired as a teacher and coach during the regular Monday, July 12, NISD board meeting, from Somerville ISD, where he's spent the last five years. Cone, a former Yegua head football coach, opted to remain in Somerville rather than head to Normangee.

One other resignation was accepted Thursday, July 22 - from teacher and yearbook sponsor Rebecca Geletka. She resigned to accept a teaching post at Rockdale Jr. High School, Burger said.

Rebecca Geletka is the wife of former Normangee High School Principal Joe Geletka. Joe Geletka resigned effective Monday, July 12, having accepted the principal's job at Rockdale High School. Joe Geletka had served as NHS principal since the 2008-09 school year, overseeing teachers and students in grades nine through 12. Prior to that, he'd served two years as NHS assistant principal - when NISD had just two campuses - under former NHS Principal Alan Andrus.

Burger said the Geletkas are moving to Rockdale.

Replacing Joe Geletka at NHS will be Trey Daniel, who served the last two years as Normangee Middle School's first-ever principal. NISD trustees voted Monday, July 12, to hire Wendee Binford to fill Daniel's old post at NMS, where she'll supervise students and teachers in grades six through eight.

Binford comes to Normangee from Bryan ISD's Sam Rayburn Middle School, where she had served since 2005 as a seventh and eight grade math teacher.

Normangee Elementary School Principal Kristi Lee will remain at the campus she's headed up since 2008-09, supervising teachers and students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through five.
